Carlo Mollino
«A complex and nonconformist personality, Mollino made an original interpenetration between his various interests: aviation, motoring, photography, design, fashion. The declared desire to ratify an architecture free from normative and conventional schemes characterized the brilliant and solitary quest of Mollino, an authentic protagonist of 20th-century architecture» | ENCICLOPEDIA TRECCANI
A short introduction
Mollino (1905-1973) is the subject of dozens of books and restrospectives, which rediscovered his work after his death in Turin in 1973 - in this section you will find the basic information to approach his complex personality. For any further insights, we urge you to visit his personal archives-held at the Polytechnic University of Turin, where he taught for more than 20 years-and his Casa Museo. As well as, of course, Casa Cattaneo - Villa K2.

In the 1930s Mollino was among the very few architects, internationally speaking, to introduce elements of Surrealist art and culture into the Modern Movement. Free from any rigid ideological position, he went on to define a synthetic form of eclecticism that prefigured the contemporary. Taking nature as a source for both engineering and harmonious beauty, Mollino was essentially in search of lightness and dynamism, qualities he animatedly infused into his organic architecture and furniture. An innate pleasure for storytelling shaped every aspect of his work. Here you can find a list of his major works.
